The Native Sons of the Golden West extends to you an
invitation to join our organization now- for California's
progress and preservation. Below are listed some of the
activities we are currently engaged in.
A fraternity- Organized for mutual benefit, mental
improvement. social activities and progress of California. To
the Pioneers belonged the birth and infancy of our State - to us
its destiny. A fraternity that has a purpose - a historical and
constructive organization composed of native- born Californians.
History - Preservation and marking of historical sites
and landmarks, as well as support of preservation efforts
throughout the state, to keep alive the rich history of
California.
Civic Activities - Dedication of public building to
Truth, Liberty, and Toleration and the service of the people of
California. Local sponsorship of parades in many communities,
support for organizations such as the California State Parks
Foundation and many state and local historical action
organizations.
Flag Day - June 14th - is also the anniversary of the
first raising of the Bear Flag, now our State emblem, marked by
a ceremony and festivities in Sonoma.
Veterans programs - in health and welfare, supporting
legislation for hospitals and financial aid for our service men
Perpetual Trust - The new foundation provides a
charitable object for any person wishing to donate funds for the
support of the projects or our Order. Gifts and bequests provide
certain tax advantages to the donor.
Charities - Charity at all times, our practice - official
sponsoring agent for the Cleft Palate Program (4th most common
child malady, physically handicaps one out of every 800
children) Statewide participation and contributions to other
charitable and community programs.
Public Speaking - For all students in grades 9-12
encouragement to learn and tell others about the fascinating
history of California, while mastering skills of self -
expression, communication and confidence, Five Hundred private,
public and parochial schools participate throughout the State.
Admission Day - Aggressive support of holiday status for
September 9th as marking a critical event in United States
history with the admission - of California to statehood in 1850.
